Fried olives are so darn scrumptious! This easy appetizer is perfect for the holiday season. It’s also ideal for wine and appetizer parties all year round. Make this simple air fryer recipe in less than 30 minutes!

INGREDIENTS FOR FRIED OLIVES

These are the ingredients you’ll need for making this delicious air fryer recipe!

  • Manzanilla olives stuffed with minced pimento
  • Panko bread crumbs
  • All-purpose flour
  • Garlic powder
  • Paprika or chili powder
  • Large eggs
  • Cooking spray (olive oil or canola)
  • GARNISHES: fresh oregano and grated Parmesan cheese

FRIED OLIVES: AIR FRYER RECIPE

Follow these easy step-by-step instructions for making fried olives in an air fryer. If you don’t have an air fryer, no problem! Scroll down to “Expert Tips” for stovetop instructions.

  • STEP 1: Crack eggs into a small bowl. Whisk with a fork.
  • STEP 2: In a bowl, mix flour, garlic powder and paprika.
  • STEP 3: Pour Panko crumbs into a bowl. Open the jar of olives. Use a colander to drain off the liquid.
  • STEP 4 Work in very small batches. Toss the olives in flour. Coat them well in the beaten egg. No dry flour should be visible on the olives! Add them to the breadcrumb mixture. Coat them very well. Place the battered olives on plate in a single layer.

HOW TO MAKE FRIED OLIVES

Air frying is so much fun, especially with the Mealthy CrispLid! It’s a healthy alternative to pan frying your favorite foods. If you don’t yet own one, no worries! Use the equipment you already have to make this easy appetizer.

  • STEP 1: Place the air fryer trivet inside the pressure cooker.
  • STEP 2: Over the sink, spray down the air fryer basket with cooking spray. This will prevent the fried olives from sticking to the basket.
  • STEP 3: Hold the plate of battered olives over the sink. Spray them down well with cooking spray. This will help make them nice and golden while they’re being air fried.
  • STEP 4: In a single layer, add battered olives to air fryer basket. Leave space between the olives. Work in batches.

HOW TO AIR FRY OLIVES WITH MEALTHY CRISPLID

Here’s how to use the Mealthy CrispLid for this fried olives recipe:

  1. Select temperature: 400 degrees / Select time: 5 minutes / Press Start
  2. When the air fryer stops, lift the handle on the CrispLid and remove it from the pressure cooker. Transfer the hot lid to the silicone mat.
  3. With tongs, flip the olives over. Mist them with cooking spray. Put the air fryer lid back on the pressure cooker.

  1. Select temperature: 400 degrees / Select time: 3 minutes / Press Start
  2. Carefully remove the air fryer lid and transfer it to the silicone mat.
  3. With tongs, transfer the olives to a serving bowl.
  4. Garnish with fresh oregano and grated Parmesan cheese.

KITCHEN TIPS: For battered foods that should be crispy on all sides, don’t overcrowd the fryer basket. Misting the olives before with oil before cooking AND halfway through the cooking process is highly recommended. It will help the batter crisp up nicely.

  • BEST TYPES OF OLIVES FOR FRYING: Always use pitted olives – olives with the pit removed! Try green olives stuffed with pimento, garlic or bleu cheese. Try black olives too!
  • WHAT TO SERVE WITH FRIED OLIVES: Cubed cheese, salami, thinly-sliced serrano ham, marinated artichoke hearts, crackers, nuts, and dried fruit. This appetizer pairs well with wine!
  • DIPPING SAUCES FOR FRIED OLIVES: Garlic aioli, ranch dressing, blue cheese dressing, yum yum sauce, and jarred marinara sauce.
  • NO AIR FRYER? NO PROBLEM! You can fry them on the stovetop. Add 2 inches of canola oil to a heavy pan. Fry olives in batches over medium heat for about 1 1/2 minutes or until the crumb coating is golden and crisp. With a slotted spoon, transfer fried olives to a paper-towel-lined plate to drain the oil.

Description

A dish of fried olives is the perfect appetizer for holiday parties and wine-and-cheese gatherings. Make this quick easy recipe in an air fryer or on your stovetop!

Ingredients

  • 1 10-ounce jar stuffed green olives
  • 2 cups Panko bread crumbs
  • 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika or chili powder
  • 23 large eggs
  • Cooking spray (olive oil or canola)
  • GARNISHES: fresh oregano leaves + grated Parmesan cheese
  • OPTIONAL: Your favorite dipping sauce!

Instructions

  1. Take out 3 bowls. Crack eggs into the first. Whisk with a fork. In the second bowl mix together the flour, paprika and garlic powder. Add Panko crumbs to the third bowl.
  2. Drain off the liquid from the olives. Toss them in flour. Dip them in the beaten egg and coat them well! No areas of dry flour areas should be visible on the olives! Coat them in the breadcrumb mixture. As you work, place the battered olives on a plate in a single layer.
  3. Hold the plate of olives over the kitchen sink. Spray them well with cooking spray. If your air fryer basket is stainless steel, lightly spray the basket to prevent sticking. Transfer the olives to the air fryer basket. Arrange them in a single layer with a bit of space between each piece.
  4. Air fry the olives at 400°F for 5 minutes. Flip them over. Spray them with cooking spray. Air fry at 400°F for 3 minutes. With tongs, transfer the fried olives to a serving dish.
  5. Garnish your appetizer with fresh oregano leaves and a light sprinkling of Parmesan cheese. If desired, serve with your favorite dipping sauce!
