Chili Recipe With Tomato Juice

A warm hearty soup on the stove top is such a great way to keep warm inside when it’s cold outside. Our family especially enjoys this chili recipe that is made with tomato juice and only has a few beans.

The ground beef and tomato flavors are most prominent. There is a small can of mild chili beans to maintain that classic chili essence.

Our Loaded Broccoli Noodle Soup and are classic cool-weather recipes, but we tend to eat more chili and Hamburger and Noodle Casserole with ground beef than anything else throughout the winter.

The full-time farmers in our family have long days of work outside in all kinds of conditions. Farmhouse Style Chili is one of the recipes that they crave to warm up on a cold day.

While we’re not planting or harvesting crops in the winter there’s still animals to take care of and lots of maintenance and repairs to do on the farm equipment. So the need to keep working all year around is real. And cold people need warm and hearty meals! Our Farmhouse Meatloafand Hearty Beef Stew are a couple other tried and true comfort food recipes that feature beef we raise on the farm.

Another recipe that we enjoy is our Farmhouse Crock Pot Chili,it’s a little different in that it is packed with beans and not nearly as juicy.

Ingredients Needed:

  • Hamburger or venison – We always use lean ground beef.
  • Tomato juice
  • Onion – White, yellow or sweet onion all work fine, just chop it up.
  • Petite diced tomatoes – A can works well, or frozen tomatoes from the garden are great.
  • Mild chili beans
  • Chili powder
  • Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt
  • Sugar

What to Serve with Chili

My husband grew up eating chili with peanut butter sandwiches. More recently he eats chili served with saltines and cheese. Skyline style chiliwith spaghetti on top is a dish that he craves too! I have several friends that have a tradition of serving cinnamonrolls with chili, but that’s new to me.

Chili For a Crowd

One of the best family parties we went to last year was a big family campout. A couple people made chili over a campfire and other brought a pot of chili and then dumped them all together for the crowd to enjoy. I would prefer to keep chili separateso that it can begin mild and people that like more heat or spice could easily add more to their bowl.

We call this Flatlander Chili where I live, Illinois. It’s pretty much the same but does add a bit of cumin. It certainly is delicious. I find it’s better the next day. It’s also great in a crockpot. I was going to make it this weekend but yours looks so good, I don’t know if I can wait until then!
