WHAT YOU NEED TO MAKE FOOTBALL STADIUM COOKIES

EASY FOOTBALL GAME COOKIES (2)

For this recipe, the sugar cookies were made from scratch, but I took some help from the store in the way of store-bought frosting and icing. I am pretty terrible at making frosting from scratch, so this is both a time and a sanity-saving decision! You can choose to make everything from scratch OR even buy store-bought cookie dough or cookie mix.

TIPS FOR DECORATING THE FOOTBALL STADIUM COOKIES

EASY FOOTBALL GAME COOKIES (16)

Decorating these stadium cookies is a simple four-step process. Here are a few suggestions to make sure your cookies turn out just right.

  • You can use homemade frosting and royal icing and color them with food color instead of buying store-bought.
  • I recommend using frosting for the top half of the cookies because the sprinkles stick to frosting much better than icing.
  • I don’t recommend using green frosting for the field since it doesn’t harden enough to allow you to stack the cookies after they are decorated. This risks messing up your designs.
  • Let the green icing partially harden before applying the field goal to ensure crisp lines.

VARIATIONS ON THE FOOTBALL STADIUM COOKIES

EASY FOOTBALL GAME COOKIES (17)

This is a very flexible recipe so you can take quite a few liberties with the recipe. These are just a few ways you can adapt the recipe to suit your needs.

  • Flavor: You can swap out the vanilla extract for other flavors of extract. I love both almond and lemon extracts in sugar cookies.
  • Colors: You can find nonpareils in a wide range of colors online. You can limit the crowd’s colors to your team’s colors or the colors of the teams participating in the Big Game.
  • Design: Instead of decorating the field with goalposts, you can create yard markers with white icing.
  • Sport: You can change these cookies into football (soccer) cookies or baseball cookies by changing the icing decorations on the field.

SERVING AND STORING THE BIG GAME COOKIES

These cookies can be stored at room temp for 3-5 days. I recommend placing them in an airtight container with a slice of bread. The bread keeps the cookies from drying out. If you are stacking the cookies in the container, I suggest placing a piece of wax paper between the layers to prevent any sticking or smooshing of your decorations.

Add these cookies to your football party snack table. I have plenty of fun football watch party ideas here on the blog. Be sure to check them all out!
